Both steelmaking and ironmaking are carried out by oxidation-reduction reaction, but there are great differences between them in reaction objects: ironmaking is to reduce iron, while A514 grade T alloy steel plate steelmaking is to remove excessive carbon and other impurities in pig iron, so there are relations and differences between them in actual operation. There are three main methods of A514 grade T alloy steel plate steelmaking: converter, electric furnace and flat furnace. The converter steelmaking process is most widely used.

As to the Chemical composition, the different content is a main on carbon content, while the carbon content of A514 grade T alloy steel plate, A283Gr. D is no more than 0.27% and it is higher than Grade C (≤0.24%) ; as to the mechanical property, the differences are tensile strength and yield strength, while the tensile strength of ASTM A283 Gr.D is 415-550MPa (60-80 ksi) and yield strength of ASTM A283 grade D is 230MPa (33 ksi).
According to the economic development trend in Asia and the economic development of China, India, Japan and ASEAN, it is estimated that the steel consumption in Asia will be 1228 million tons in 2019, with a year-on-year growth of 6.6%; the A514 grade T alloy steel plate steel demand in Asia in 2020 is predicted to be 1.241 billion tons, with a year-on-year growth of 1.1%. According to the A514 grade T alloy steel plate economic development of Europe, it is estimated that the steel consumption in Europe will be 202 million tons in 2019, with a year-on-year decrease of 3.3%; the steel demand in Europe in 2020 is predicted to be 205 million tons, with a year-on-year growth of 1.5%.
