Q235 steel grades cover Q235A, Q235B, Q235C and Q235D. Other than Q235A, the other three Q235 steel grades needs impact test. Charpy V-notch specimen is used for impact toughness test. The impact toughness index is Akv. Q235 steel plates are widely used because of its moderate carbon content, good comprehensive performance, good coordination of strength, plasticity and welding performance.
The tensile strength of A36 steel plate is 58-80 Ksi (about 400-550MPa), and the yield strength is 36 Ksi (about 250MPa); the tensile strength of Q235 steel plate is 370-500 MPa, and the yield strength is 235MPa; the tensile strength of SS400 steel plate is 400-510MPa, and the yield strength is 245MPa. For the mechanical properties of ASTM A588 heavy plate, SS400 steel plate and Q235 steel plate, the thickness of steel plate is less than 16mm. It can be seen from the above data that ASME A36 and Chinese Q235 are named after the yield strength of the material, while SS400 is named after the tensile strength of the material.
