API 5L is a specification for pipeline steel pipe formulated by the American Petroleum Institute. The main steel grades in API 5L are: A, B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, X80, X90, X100, X120, etc. In API standard, pipeline steels are divided into PSL1 and PSL2. In the standard, there are slight differences in chemical composition, ASTM A588 high strength steel mechanical properties, inspection items, acceptance standards, delivery status, etc between PSL1 and PSL2 steel. For example, API 5L PSL1 X42 requires an upper carbon limit of 0.26, while API 5L PSL2 X42 requires an upper carbon limit of 0.24.
