ASTM tank plate A283 Gr D carbon steel sheet is used for general purpose structural applications of medium strength (60 ksi tensile) requirement. It is relatively higher in strength than A283 Gr C steel. The machinability of A283 Gr D steel is good, as compared to any low carbon steel.
A283 Gr D carbon steel can be welded by all conventional methods. Its heat treatment consists of normalizing at 1650 F and slow furnace cooling.
ASTM tank plate A283 Gr D is mainly produced in plate type and coil type. In case A283 Gr D steel is made from coil type and furnished without heat treatment or with stress relieving only, the addtional requirements, including additional test methods and test result, shall comply with A6/A6M specification.
