ASTM carbon steel A588 grade A HSLA material is high strength low alloy steel. It provides higher strength and a longer life cycle than A36 steel. A588 grade A is also called A588 gr A, which is known for its good atmospheric corrosion resistance and superior corrosion resistance.
A588 grade A material is structural steel for welded, riveted, or bolted construction. Heat analysis shall be performed wherein A588 grade A steel shall conform to the required chemical composition for carbon, manganese, phosphorous, sulfur, silicon, nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, vanadium, and columbium.
ASTM carbon steel A588 grade A was intended primarily for use in welded bridges and buildings where savings in weight or added durability are important. A588 grade A steel samples shall also undergo the tensile test and conform to required values of tensile strength, yield point, and elongation.
